Haas, 65, Retired Fireman, Navy Veteran Dies Elmer Belton (Bud) Haas, 65, retired captain of the Norfolk Fire Division and a Navy veteran of World War I, died yesterday at 3 p.m. in a Norfolk hospital. He resided at 115 West Freemason Street. A native of Mount Vernon, Ind., he had lived in Norfolk 45 years. He served in the Navy from October 6, 1905 to 1919 and prior to that was a member of the Mount Vernon Police Department. Leaving the Navy, he served for a short while in the Norfolk Police Division, after which he was attached to the Fire Division here from 1919 to 1944, when he retired. He won a promotion to captain on December 26, 1926. Haas belonged to the Norfolk Fire Relief Association and was a member of Norfolk Lodge No. 38, B.P.O. Elks. His late parents were George and Mrs. Carry Bonenberger Haas. Surviving are one brother, Phillip L. Haas, of Evansville, Ind.; one niece and an aunt. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. at the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments by the Rev. Leonard R. Black, pastor of the Colonial Avenue Methodist Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
