Nicholas J. Habets, 72, of 3037 Watergate Lane, pastor of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, King’s Grant, died Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in his home. A native of Holland, he was a son of Peter Joseph and Mrs. Marie G. Fleischheuer Habets. He has no survivors. He lived in the Tidewater area 35 years. He was ordained Jan. 6, 1919, and appointed assistant pastor of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Roanoke, where he served until 1924. He served next as pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Fairfax Station until 1929. In 1929, he founded Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Portsmouth, and remained until 1950, when he became pastor of Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Virginia Beach. He retired in November 1962, but came out of retirement in February 1963, to found and become pastor of St. Nicholas Church, a new parish at King’s Grant near Little Neck Road. The body was taken to H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments on Laskin Road.
