A native of Momence, Ill., he spent his early life in Paynesville, Minn., and resided in Princess Anne County from 1897 until 1912. He moved to Norfolk County and farmed for a number of years until his retirement. He served for several years as president of the Southern Produce Company here. He also had been a vestryman and Sunday school teacher at Trinity Episcopal Church, Portsmouth. Mr. Haines gained wide recognition as a successful farmer, being a pioneer of Eastern Virginia in scientific farming under glass. His advanced agricultural methods were featured in a National Geographic Magazine picture story. Headed Produce Company He had been a member of the board of trustees of the Virginia Truck Experiment Station at Diamond Springs. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Miss Helen Dorman Haines; a sister, Mrs. Blanche Haines Copeland, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted today at 4 p.m. at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
