Virginian-Pilot, May 29, 1956
Mrs. Lena Halpern, 68, wife of Jacob Halpern and daughter of Joseph and Mrs. 
Esther Myers Kanter, died yesterday at 1:20 a.m. at a Norfolk hospital. She had 
been a resident of Norfolk for 55 years, residing at 524 Washington Park. She 
was a member of Beth El Temple and the B’Nai Israel Congregation.
Besides her husband, she is survived by four sons, Norris E. Halpern of 
Norfolk, Dr. Julius Halpern of Bala Cynwyd, PA, William Halpern, of Beverly 
Hills, CA, and Alfred Halpern of San Francisco, CA; seven grandchildren; three 
brothers, A. Kanter of Bridgeport CT, Max J. Kanter of Hampton, and Sam Kanter 
of Norfolk, and one sister, Mrs. Ida Epstein of Buckroe Beach.
Services will be conducted at the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts today at 4 p.m. by 
the Rev Paul Reich, rabbi of Beth El Temple. Burial will be in B’Nai Israel C
Cemetery.
