He was a native of Norfolk and had been a patient in the Veterans' Hospital at Fort Bayard for the last four years as result of having been gassed in the battle of the Argonne Forest. During the World War he served overseas with distinction in the Ambulance Service of the Seventy-seventh Division. He was the son of the late C.W. and Mrs. Martha Deal Halstead and is survived by three brothers, John D. Halstead and A.L. Halstead, of Norfolk and R. W. Halstead, of High Point, N.C. He was a member of the American Legion, D.A.V. and the B.P.O.Elks. The body will reach Norfolk tomorrow night and will be taken to the funeral home of E. Lee Cox and Brother, 631 Westover avenue. Funeral services will be conducted at the residence of his brother, A.L. Halstead, 203 Fourth street, Willoughby Beach, Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
