Halstead, a retired farmer of the county who recently came to town to live, died suddenly at his home in South Norfolk shortly after eating his supper. Mr. Halstead was 74 years of age and a substantial citizen of the community. It is thought heart trouble was the cause of his death. Mr. Halstead leaves a wife and two daughters, the latter being, Mrs. J.F. Hutchins, Jr., and Mrs. J.T. Smith. He will be buried Saturday. ************************************************************** The funeral of the late Alpheus M. Halstead, the retired farmer, who died at his home in South Norfolk Thursday evening, was conducted from the residence yesterday morning at 11 o'clock, Rev. P.S.C. Davis, pastor of South Norfolk Baptist Church, officiating, assisted by Rev. V.W. Bargamin, pastor of Liberty Street M.E. Church. The interment was in Magnolia Cemetery and the floral tributes were numerous and very beautiful. The pallbearers were as follows: B. O. Fentress, A. Miller, Dr. R.L. Miller, Mark Spense, W.C. Meginly and M.A. Roach.
