Virginian Pilot and The Norfolk Landmark August 19, 1916

Mrs. Margaret J. Halstead of Campostella Heights, died yesterday morning at 3:30 
o'clock at her home in Springfield avenue after an illness of more than two 
months.  She was in the 69th year of her age and was born in Currituck County, 
North Carolina, but had been a resident of this section for more than 43 years.  
She was the widow of Dr. George Nolley Halstead and a daughter of the late S.S. 
and Mrs. Margaret Bernard Wilson.  She was a consistent member of Liberty Street 
M.E. Church, South Norfolk, with which she has been connected since its 
foundation. Mrs. Halstead is survived by the following children:  Mrs. N.G. 
Wilson, Mrs. S. Norfleet Etheridge, Mrs. W.L. Lamerdin, Mrs. C.J. Rountrey; also 
one sister, Mrs. Alphonso Mercer.  The funeral will be conducted at the 
residence this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock by Rev. R.N. Hartness, pastor of the 
Liberty Street Methodist Church.  Interment will be in the family lot in 
Magnolia Cemetery, Berkley.
