The Norfolk Virginian Pilot August 8, 1942
Samuel Gaston Halstead, aged 71, died at a local hospital Friday morning at 
11:30 o'clock after a long illness.  Mr. Halstead was the husband of the late 
Mrs. Maggie Halstead and the son of the late Samuel J. and Mrs. Sarah Ann 
Halstead.
He was formally of Elizabeth City, N.C., and a resident of Norfolk for the past 
50 years, residing at 504 First View street, Ocean View.  He was a member of 
Ocean View Baptist Church.
Mr. Halstead is survived by three sons, Harry S. Halstead, of Richmond, and 
William G. and Samuel R. Halstead, of Ocean View; three daughters, Mrs. Jennie 
Feinberg, of Washington; Mrs. Helen H. Martin and Mrs. Dorothy Patterson, of 
Ocean View; two sisters, Mrs. Sarah F. Youse of Jackson, N.C., and Mrs. Lillian 
B. Taylor, of Norfolk; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and 
several nieces and nephews. 
Funeral services will take place Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the chapel 
of Paul E. Warren & Son Funeral Home, 1102 Colonial avenue.  Burial will be in 
the family plot in Elmwood Cemetery.
