Veralyne H. Hamilton, born June 14, 1934, died June 15, 1996, in a local hospital.

The only child of Crawley and Lillie Holmes, at the age of 5 she was left to the
care of her grandmother, Goldie Fields. Carrie Newby was another woman who was
instrumental in the shaping of this little girl to young lady into woman. A
student of St. Joseph's Catholic School in Norfolk, she relocated to the Bronx
in 1958.

She is survived by her husband, Winston Hamilton; her four daughters, Pamela
Brown, Winifred Campbell, Joan Hamilton, and Joy Hamilton; and her four
grandchildren, Yusuf and Zaid Brown and Malik and Shani Campbell.

After receiving her bachelor of arts and masters of urban planning from Hunter
College of the City of New York, Veralyne went on to serve as second vice
chairperson of the Bronx Model Cities Policy Committee, a member of Bronx
Community Board (NU)3, then to the director of Labor Sherman Day Care Center in
the Bronx.

At the time of her death, Veralyne was the director of Community Boards and
Affairs in the Administration of Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer. She
was deeply committed to the betterment of the communities of Bronx County. This
commitment was only surpassed by the love and devotion that she had for her
daughters and grandchildren that above all else was her life's work. She will be
greatly missed by so many.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday by Father Walter Barrett in
the Basilica of St. Mary's Church, Norfolk. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery .
Graves Funeral Home is in charge.
