Hanaford, Detroit Native Succumbs To Tropical Malady The body of Julian S. Hanaford, 53 yeas old, a native of Detroit and one time sportsman and traveler, is being held at H.D. Oliver's undertaking establishment, in East Freemason Street, awaiting advices from relatives or friends. Mr. Hanaford died Monday night at the Pontiac Apartments, Virginia Beach, where he had lived since last August. He had been in ill health for 18 months, but only in the last six months had his illness reached a critical stage. He had gone to Virginia Beach to rest and to fight the malady which finally caused his death. Nothing could be learned yesterday about Mr. Hanaford's family. He told Dr. H.F. Dormire, who attended him in his last illness, that he had no relatives. J.J. Dalton, real estate man of Virginia Beach, a friend of Mr. Hanaford, was said to be the executor of his estate. Mr. Dalton could not be reached yesterday. Mr. Hanaford for six years traveled in South America, and during that time was said to have been engaged in aviation research for the United States Government. He had no business interests at Virginia Beach, so far as could be ascertained. He went there simply for rest and quiet in the hope of fighting off the disease which he developed in South America and which caused him to return to this country last summer. A diary kept by Mr. Hanaford, indicated that he had been an ardent sportsman, had traveled widely and had been a man of considerable wealth at one time.
