Hanlon, well known citizen, a retired boiler inspector of the local staff of the U.S. Steamboat and Inspection Service, died last night at 6:30 o'clock at a local hospital. He had been ill for several months. Mr. Hanlon was 83 years old and was a native of Waterford, County Cork, Ireland. He had resided in Norfolk for more than 50 years. He was connected with the U.S. Steamboat and Inspection Service for 33 years, retiring some years ago. He was a past exalted ruler of Norfolk Lodge 38, B.P.O. Elks and took an active part in the affairs of that organization for many years. He was noted for his kindly disposition and readiness to help those in distress. He was very active until a few months ago, when his health began to fail rapidly. Mr. Hanlon is said to have two sisters residing in Ireland and a brother, John Hanlon, in London. He also is survived by an adopted daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Hanlon Downing, of Norfolk. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. P.C. Blackburn, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** Thomas J. Han1on - Funeral services for Mr. Hanlon, who died Friday, were held at 10 o’clock yesterday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. P. C. Blackburn, pastor, officiating. The Rev. John C. Ryan was present in the sanctuary. Interment was in St Mary’s Cemetery. Pallbearers, William Cashman, T. J. Marsha, W. T. Hill, B. J. King, J. J. Lloyd and W. Carl Spencer, members of Norfolk Lodge No. 38, B.P.O. Elks.
