M. HANNAN DIES; RITES WEDNESDAY Aged Norfolk Resident Long Was Active in Business and Political Affairs William M. Hannan, for many years a leader in the business and political life of Norfolk, died last night at 7:30 o'clock at his home on Sixteenth Street, Willoughby. He was 86 years old, was a native of Limerick, Ireland and had resided in Norfolk for 82 years. Mr. Hannan was a member of the City Council for 27 years and of the Board of Control for seven years. He held the office of city sergeant for four years. At the time of his death, he was a member of the board of directors of the Twin- City Permanent Building Association. He had retired from active business many years ago. Funeral services will be conducted in St. Mary's Catholic Church Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. The family has requested that flowers be omitted. Mr. Hannan is survived by a daughter, Miss Mary C. Hannan, of Norfolk; three sons, William M. Hannan, Jr., of New York City; James T. Hannan, of Norfolk and Michael C. Hannan, of Youngstown, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Edward Shanly, of New York City, and four grandchildren, Mary Virginia, William E., Anne Trenor and Mark C. Hannan, all of Youngstown. ************************************************************************** William M. Hannan - Funeral services for William M. Hannan, whose death occurred Sunday at the residence, Sixteenth street, Willoughby, were held at 10 o’clock yesterday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. E. A. Brosnan, officiating. Msgr. T. E. Waters, the Rev. F. J. Magri, the Rev. P. C. Blackburn, the Rev. J. F. Kociela and the Rev. A. J. Taylor were present in the sanctuary. At the conclusion of the mass, Father Brosnan explained the mass and paid tribute to the faith and charity of the deceased. There was a large attendance and a profusion of floral offerings. The casket was covered with a pall of Easter lilies, pink roses and ferns. During the service, Mrs. Otto Wells, Miss Rosa Smith, E. Vincent Smith, R. F. Crutsinger and Dr. J. J. O’Keefe sang, “Veni Jesu,” and E. Vincent Smith, Gounod's “Benedlctus," with Mrs. James Hughes, accompanist. Interment was in the Shanly Mausoleum in St. Mary’s Cemetery, temporarily. Services at the cemetery were conducted by the Rev. A. J. Taylor. Honorary pallbearers were John A. Baecher, William L. Prieur, Sr., Thomas S. Fitzgibbons, T. M. Cashin, Capt. John I. Clark, C. Moran Barry, C. Lee Dudley, Walter H. Taylor, III, J. Alvah Boushell, Michael Kaplan, Roy Downs, J. M. Hayden, Cornelius Clark, Col. Charles H. Consolvo, Frank A. Evans, L. P. Roberts, Sr., Dr. S. A. Sutton, E. J. Gorman, R. D. Cooke, W. W. Elliott, O. J. Edgerton, Dr. J. L. Deitrick, W. H. Hancox, B. Gray Tunstall, Charles E. Francis, B. O. Williamson, Camp Shelly, E. M. Holmes, Dr. C. H. Childress, Hon. W. H. Sargeant, P. F. Joyce and William Miller. Active pallbearers were G. Emmett Hogan, J. Alvah Clark, W. J. Twiford, David M. Donovan, Jesse Hough, Gatewood Dashield, Raymond Flaherty, Clarence Ferguson, Vance Kraemer, Joseph Caprio and James T. Holland.
