State Trooper Glen Swanson identified the victim as Roy Nathan Harding Jr., 24, a member of a Tidewater, Va., Naval Reserve unit. Harding was trapped in the vehicle for about an hour before rescue workers freed him from the wreckage. He was a native of Norfolk and lived there until moving recently to Statesville. He attended N.C. State University. Surviving, besides his parents, are two sisters, Miss Amanda V. Harding and Miss Francesca M. Harding of Statesville; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Amanda Harding of Lextan, Ky. A funeral service will be held in H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk, today at 2 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
