His son, a youth about 16 years of age, went to the bed about 8 o'clock to arouse his father and found that he had breathed his last, which was the first intimation the inmates of the house had of the affair. Mr. Harnett was from Bermuda and was stopping in Norfolk for his health, being a sufferer from asthma and heart disease, and had been here about a month. He was in as good health as usual on Friday night without any expectation of an attack of sickness. When his death was discovered, Dr. Wm. Selden was called in and expressed the opinion that the deceased died while asleep. Mr. Harnett was not known in Norfolk further than is stated above. He was a Mason and the members of that Order in the city are interesting themselves in the matter of his burial.
