NORFOLK - The Rev. Nathaniel Harps, 95, of the 900 block of Reservoir Ave., 
passed quietly and peacefully into eternal rest Feb. 12, 2006. A native of 
Florence, S.C., he was the son of Charlie and Mary Service Harps. The Rev. 
Harps was predeceased by his first wife, Alcenia L. Harps and was presently 
the husband of Celeste B. Harps. 

The Rev. Harps retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a wharf builder. A 
faithful member of Greater Metropolitan AME Zion, he was active in many 
phases of church life including the Steward Board, class leader and Sunday 
school superintendent. He was also an associate minister of the church. 

He leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife; three daughters, Myrtle 
Taylor (Robert), Natalye H. Clark and Brenda Harps-Upshur (Wilbert Jr.); one 
son, John W. Manuel; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and 
other relatives and friends. 

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greater Metropolitan AME Zion 
Church by the Rev. Dr. Felix Ofosu. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. 
Viewing will be Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will 
be placed in church at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. The family will receive friends 
at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday. Riddick Funeral Service is in
