James A. "Hank" Harrell, 78, of the 5500 block of Carolanne Terrace, a retired 
assistant production controlman, died Sept. 17, 1993, in Chesapeake.

Mr. Harrell was born in Portsmouth and was the widower of Catherine E. Harrell. He 
was retired from the Naval Air Rework Facility, Naval Air Station, Norfolk. He was 
a life member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where he had served as an altar 
boy. He was a graduate of Holy Trinity Catholic Church High school and was a 
supporter of the new Catholic high school in Virginia Beach. He was an avid 
baseball player, having played for the Norfolk Cardinals and was an avid Notre 
Dame fan.

Survivors include four daughters, Sandra L. Roginski, Pamela D. Commander, Cathy 
C. Johnson, all of Chesapeake, and Donna R. Callahan of Norfolk; one sister, 
Constance Harrell of Spartanburg, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-
grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Holy Trinity Catholic Church by 
Father Lou Ruoff. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will be at 
Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, from 7 to 9 p.m. today, and 
at other times at the home of Pamela D. Commander, 1251 Corkwood Circle, 
Chesapeake. Pallbearers will be Christian Commander, James Adams, Charles Keith 
Land, Joshua Paul Commander, Michael Callahan, Donald Curtis, Samuel E. Dennis and 
Doyle Underhill. Honorary pallbearers will be Troy Nathan Land and Travis Jason 
Land.
