A native of Southampton County, he was a son of the late Nelson and Mrs. Susannah Harris. He retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 37 years. He was an Army veteran of World War I. He was a member of Male Usher Board of First Calvary Baptist Church. Besides his widow, surviving are a foster daughter, Mrs. Barbara Epps of Eglin Air Force Base, FL; three brothers, Theodore Harris of Norfolk, Nelson Harris of Hampton, and Andrew Harris of Courtland; a sister, Mrs. Sarah Gooden of Courtland; and five grandchildren. A funeral service was held in First Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Johnnie White. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with Graves Funeral Home in charge.
