Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Thursday, September 20, 2001 
Vernard Lee Harris, 86, of the 5300 block of Kingswell Drive, passed away.

A native of Norfolk, he was the widower of Evelyn W. Harris and was predeceased
by a son, Vernard L. Harris Jr. He fought in World War II as a chief petty
officer in the U.S. Navy. He retired in 1976 from the Naval Supply Center after
34 years of service. Mr. Harris was a former member of First Calvary Baptist
Church and a former member of the Denault Social Club.

Survivors include his brother, Alvin B. Harris of Norfolk; two sisters, Gladys
H. Fentress and Emma H. Willard, both of Norfolk; and a host of other relatives.

A funeral will be held at noon Friday in the chapel of Graves Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . The family will receive friends at 869
Marietta Ave., Norfolk.
