James Allen Hartline, 84, a retired Navy chief petty officer, died April 17, 1991, 
in his home.

Mr. Hartline, a native of Drakesboro, Ky., had retired as a chief boatswain's mate 
after 23 years. He was a World War II veteran. He was the widower of Gene G. 
Hartline and was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and Fleet Reserve 
Branch 5.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda M. Longmire of Virginia Beach; a son, Bryant 
A. Hartline of Norfolk; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in Christ the King 
Catholic Church by the Rev. Joseph P. Lehman. Burial will be in St. Mary's 
Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Smith & William 
Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel.
