Clara, daughter of Adlena Holloman Coleman and the late Bruce Coleman Sr. was the widow of Wendell E. Harvey Sr. She was a native of Norfolk where she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. She earned a bachelor of science degree from Norfolk State University in 1969 and immediately began a career in social services with The STOP Organization where she worked diligently in several capacities until 1983. At an early age Clara joined Mount Pleasant Baptist Church where she was active in several youth auxiliaries. The entrepreneurial facet of her life commenced in 1984 when she realized her childhood dream of owning a dress shop and opened Octavia Fashion Boutique in the Fairfield Shopping Center in Virginia Beach. With freedom of decision and greater flexibility, Claras dream soon became the ministry through which she "dressed" and blessed a multitude of women continuously until her demise. Clara was a compassionate, caring, generous and considerate mother, daughter, sister and friend who always went the "extra mile" to ensure the satisfaction and well-being of her family, friends and customers. Her wonderful personality, that radiant smile, the love and strength with which she supported her family, the sisterhood that she shared with her friends, the expertise that was reflected in the exceptional manner in which she met the needs of her customers, will all be missed. God gave Clara special abilities and she, in return, gave Him her best by passing on to others His many kinds of blessings. Clara leaves to remember with love and gratitude her son, Wendell E. Harvey Jr., the light of her life; her loving mother, Adlena H. Coleman; her brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Carolyn Coleman; an aunt, Margaret Coleman; a special niece, Crystal Harvey-Corprew; a myriad of other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends; and her "family" of customers. A funeral celebrating her life will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 934 W. Little Creek Road, Norfolk, the Rev. William L. Davis officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery , Norfolk. The body will be in church at noon. A Christian wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Metropolitan Funeral Service, 7246 Granby St. To send condolences and sign guest book online, visit www.metropolitanfuneralservice.com.
