NORFOLK — Alvin Lawrence Harwell, 86, of the 500 block of Rhode Island Ave., a 
retired bank vice president, died May 16, 1990, in a hospital.
Mr. Harwell, a native of Norfolk, had retired from Virginia National Bank after 
46 years. He had been manager of the bank's Midtown branch. He was a member of 
Park Place United Methodist Church; Ruth Masonic Lodge 89, A.F. & A.M., and John 
Walters Royal Arch, Chapter 68. He had served on the national committee of the 
American Institute of Banking and was a past president of the local chapter.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Moore Harwell; a daughter, Anne M. Griffin of 
Norfolk; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
The graveside service with Masonic rites will be conducted at noon Friday in 
Elmwood Cemetery by the Rev. Milford C. Rollins and the Rev. Francis E. Collins. 
Friends may join the family at the residence. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 
Tidewater Drive Chapel, is handling arrangements.
