Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - December 31, 2009 
NORFOLK - Earlene Guthrie Hassell, 64, of the 2300 block of Ruffin St., went
home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009 at Sentara
Norfolk General Hospital.

Earlene was a 1963 graduate of Carver High School in Newport News and attended
Norfolk State University. She was a member of First Baptist Church Lambert's
Point. Earlene retired from Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in 2007 after 38
years of service.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 41 years, Joseph J. Hassell; two
daughters, Aretha and Jolene Hassell; her first grandchild, Nyla Duck; her
mother, Seena Guthrie; a sister, Regina Guthrie; three brothers, John Guthrie,
James Guthrie (Alice) and Nathaniel Guthrie (Robnette); four aunts; and a host
of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be held noon, Saturday in First Baptist Church Lambert's Point,
1238 W. 38th St. The Rev. Anthony Paige will officiate. Interment will be at
Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Friday in Metropolitan Funeral Service, Granby Chapel. Condolences may be
