Virginia Beach - Funeral services for George Hatchel, 56, of 722 17th street, 
were held at St. Marks AME Church Sunday, Nov. 15, with the Rev. D. P. Felton 
officiating.

Mr. Hatchel, owner and operator of the M. and E. Diner for 25 years, died Nov. 
12 at his residence after a long illness.

A native of Boydton, VA, he had lived in Virginia Beach 50 years.

He was a member of the Esquire club, Virginia Beach Citizens committee;  and St. 
Marks Church, where he served on the trustee board and affiliated with the St. 
Marks Men’s Club.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Alice Lassiter;  wife, Mrs. Edith Hatchel;  
sister, Mrs. Mabel Butler, Trenton, NJ and one brother, Samuel Hatchel, Virginia 
Beach.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, with Hairston Funeral Home of Virginia Beach in 
charge.
