VIRGINIA BEACH - Ambler Marsteller Hatchett, 44, of 1876 Karen Lane, the husband 
of Mrs. Dickie Anne Woodward Hatchett and a direct descendant of Col. Philip 
Marsteller, Alexandria mayor and officer on George Washington’s staff, died Friday 
in a hospital.
Born in Norfolk, he lived in this area all his life. He worked at the Ford Motor 
Co. assembly plant and was a member of Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
He was a son of W. Russell and Mrs. Lucy Ellen Marsteller Hatchett of Virginia 
Beach. His father was a former city manager of Virginia Beach.
He was a charter member of the Father Nicholas J. Habets Knights of Columbus 
Council 4632.
He was a member of the first graduating class of Norfolk Catholic High School and 
attended the College of William and Mary, Norfolk Extension.
Besides his widow and parents, survivors include two daughters, Misses Janet Irene 
Hatchett and Anne Russell Hatchett, a son, Ambler Marsteller Hatchett Jr ., and a 
sister, Mrs. Martha Hatchett Owens, all of Virginia Beach, and a brother, William 
R. Hatchett Jr., of Huntington Harbor, Calif.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in Star of the Sea Catholic 
Church with burial in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Norfolk. H. D. Oliver Funeral 
Apartments, Laskin Road, has charge. The family requests that memorial donations 
be made to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad or the American Heart Fund.
