Hathaway, one of Berkley's oldest and most highly respected residents and widow of the late J.R. Hathaway, passed away in her home in Main street Sunday afternoon at 3:10 o'clock after an illness of two days of heart failure. The deceased was 76 years old and had been in good health till a short time ago and was quite vigorous previous to that time. She was born in Hampton, Va. and was the eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George H. Kirby. Berkley had been her home for over fifty years. Four children--Mrs. A.H. Taylor, of Lambert's Point; Mrs. F.K. Cowan, Miss Belle Hathaway and George K. Hathaway, of Berkley-- survive her. Her funeral took place in the home yesterday evening at 6 o'clock and the interment was made in Magnolia Cemetery. Rev. E.W. Cowling, assisted by Rev. L.R. Watson, officiated. Mrs. Hathaway was well known in this community and was held in the highest esteem by her many friends, to whom her sudden death came as a surprise. The following were the pallbearers: J.V. Tavenner, John Glenville, Charles Gibbs, Dr. G.A. Thompson, C.S. Rogers, L. Hyslop, Sr., N.M. Sykes and P.H. Broulett.
