Virginian-Pilot, October 13, 1891
The funeral of Mr. James L. Hathaway, who died at his residence, No. 175 Bute 
Street, Sunday morning, took place yesterday afternoon, at 1:30 o'clock, from 
the residence and was conducted by Mr. J. M. Dozier, Sr. He was buried at Cedar 
Grove Cemetery. Mr. Hathaway was 78 years of age, an old resident and highly 
respected citizen.
