Virginian-Pilot and The Norfolk Landmark January 1, 1912

Thomas Hatton, a well known and highly esteemed young man and son of Mr. and 
Mrs. John Hatton of this city, died at St. Vincent's Hospital at 5:45 o'clock 
yesterday in the 19th year of  his age. Besides his parents, he is survived by 
two brothers, John Hatton of the Norfolk police department and James Hatton of 
the Norfolk fire department and one sister, Miss Katie Hatton. His body has been 
removed to the apartments of Funeral Director H.D. Oliver, 520 Freemason Street, 
where it will lay in state until Tuesday morning. It will be taken from there to 
St. Mary's Catholic Church, where the funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m.
"Tommy" Hatton grew up as a protege of the First precinct police. His death 
followed a long and terrific siege of typhoid-pneumonia. As a boy he spent most 
of his time at the police station earning a little money as the opportunity 
arose, usually in taking up animals reported astray in the streets. The last few 
years he had made his living as watchman for private property

HATTON – At St. Vincent’s Hospital, Sunday, December 31, 1911, at 5:45 o’clock 
p.m., THOMAS HATTON, in the 19th year of his age. Remains will be taken from H. 
D. Oliver’s funeral apartments, No. 520 Freemason street, to St. Mary’s Catholic 
Church for funeral services TUESDAY MORNING at 9:30 o’clock. Friends of the 
family are invited to attend.
