Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Thursday, January 9, 1992 
Emily M. ``Penny'' Hayes of the 2300 block of Barraud Ave., a custodian, died
Jan. 7, 1992, in a hospital.

Mrs. Hayes was born in Norfolk. She had been employed with the Norfolk Naval
Base for 10 years. She was a member of Queen Street Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Carlvet W. Hayes; a daughter, Gwendolyn H.
Alexander and an adopted daughter, Lillie R. Kellam, both of Norfolk; a
grandchild; and a great-grandchild.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Queen Street Baptist Church by
the Rev. Peter Wherry. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . The body will be
placed in the church at 10 a.m. The family will assemble at the residence. Hale
Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
