She was a native of St. Petersburg, Fla., and was the daughter of the late Rev. Bridges and Effie May Hayes. She was the widow of Rufus Hayes Sr. Mrs. Hayes was formerly employed at Suburban Cleaners. She was the loving mother of 16 children and provided a wholesome atmosphere for her children and other members of her extended family. She was a strong lady who suffered the loss of five of her children and never questioned the will of the Lord. She will be sadly missed by seven daughters, Elaine Hudgins, Janice King, Cheryl Watson and her husband, Roscoe, Vanessa Little and her husband, Jessie, Loretta Riddick and her husband, Carlton, Sandra Snead and her husband, Ali, Martha Parker and her husband, Kelvin; four sons, Stanley Hayes and his wife, Lois, Michael Hayes, Kenneth Hayes and his wife, Cheryl Yvette, and Troy Hayes. She will also be sorely missed by her 42 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a son-in-law, Carlton Drumgold; and daughters-in-law Linda Akbar and Trudy Hayes; and also a special friend, Nellcille Johnson. She was predeceased by five children, Pete Hayes Jr., Angerine Drumgold, Jesse Akbar, Lester Hayes and Paula Hayes. A funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday at Riddick Funeral Service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, and at other times at the residence.
