NORFOLK - The Rev. Thomas C. Healey, 71, son of John and Mrs. Ellen Ward Healey, 
died Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at De Paul Hospital.
Father Healey was a native of Liverpool, England, and had been a resident of 
Norfolk since July 28, 1949, when he became pastor of St. Matthew’s Catholic 
Church here.
Father Healey attended elementary school in Belfast, Scotland. He attended St. 
Francis High School in New York, and was graduated from Yale University in 1919. 
He studied for the priesthood at Belmont Abbey College, Belmont, N.C., and was 
ordained at Belmont Abbey on April 5, 1924.
He was assigned to St. Francis Church, Staunton, as assistant pastor, and from 
there to St. Andrew’s Church, Roanoke, as assistant pastor. In 1931, he was 
appointed pastor of All Saints Church, Manassas, in 1933, to St. Mary’s at Fairfax 
Station; in 1937, to St. Peter’s at Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and in 1949, to St. 
Matthew’s Catholic Church, Berkley.
Surviving him are one sister, Sister Mary Paul, of the Cross, Holyoke, Mass., and 
one brother, Judge James Healey, of New York, N.Y.
Requiem mass for the children will be conducted at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church 
Saturday at 9 a.m. Office of the Dead and Rosary services will be conducted at St. 
Mary’s Catholic Church Sunday at 8 p.m. Solemn high requiem mass will be 
celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. 
Mary’s Cemetery.
