H. HENDREN FOUND DEAD ON A COUCH Mr. William H. Hendren, a well known young man, and a resident of Maple avenue, died very suddenly Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, at the home of his father-in- law, Mr. Richard A. Roach, from a stroke of apoplexy. Mr. Roach, a former resident of this place, lives in the county, near Oaklett, and it was to his home that Mr. Hendren and his wife had gone to spend the day. After partaking of a hearty dinner Mr. Hendren reclined on a lounge and was soon in a sound sleep. After remaining some time in a comatose state Mr. William Roach, a brother of Mrs. Hendren, who accompanied them, left for his home, but did not disturb the sleeper, who was, seemingly, enjoying the repose. Later it was noticed that Mr. Hendren had ceased snoring and a strange expression had come over his face. An effort to arouse him was made without success. A physician was hastily summoned, but could do no good. The deceased was employed by the ship chandlery establishment of Mr. J.M. Jordan, of Norfolk, as bookkeeper, and had many friends in this community. He was 31 years of age and came here in 1873 with his parents. He was married about five years ago, and leaves a widow, two children, a father and mother on Maple avenue, two brothers and two sisters. The funeral will be conducted from the residence on Maple avenue this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, by Rev. R.M. Chandler, of Manchester, Va., a former pastor of Memorial M.E. Church. The interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Berkley Lodge No. 167, A.F. & A.M., of which the deceased was a member, will turn out in a body to pay their deceased brother the last token of devotion.
