The Virginian Pilot Wednesday November 8, 1961 
Mrs. Annie Roach Hendren, 87, widow of William Henry Hendren and for many years 
matron in George Washington Elementary School, died Tuesday at 9 p.m. in her 
home, 112 Conway Ave.
A native of Norfolk County, she lived in this area all her life. She was a 
daughter of Richard A. and Mrs. Margaret Barnes Roach.
She was one of the oldest members of Memorial Methodist Church and a member of 
its Women's Society of Christian Service. She also was a member of Norfolk City 
Union of King's Daughters and Norfolk College Alumnae.
Surviving are one son, W. Harry Hendren, five grandchildren and eight great-
grandchildren.
The body was taken to Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home. The family has suggested 
that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to a favorite 
charity.
