Hennelly, one of the best known young men of Norfolk, died at St. Vincent’s Hospital at 10:50 o’clock last night. Mr. Hennelly was in the 34th year of his age. For several years he was one of the deputies to Clerk of the Courts James V. Trehy. Just prior to the opening of the Jamestown Exposition, he resigned his position in the clerk's office to manage several concessions at the Exposition. Up to the time he was taken sick, he had worked hard looking after his business, the chief of which was the post card concession at the Exposition. Mr. Hennelly, by his affable manner and general attention to business, won himself many friends. He is survived by a mother, Mrs. Annie Hennelly, three brothers, William, John and Steve Hennelly. The latter is chief of the mailing department at the post office. He is also survived by two sisters, the Misses Katie and Mamie Hennelly. No arrangements for the funeral were announced last night, but the services will probably be held from St. Mary’s Catholic church of which Mr. Hennelly was a member. Mr. Hennelly was unmarried and resided with his mother and sisters at No. 1 Virginia street. The funeral of the late Joseph J. Hennelly was held from St. Mary's Catholic church, of which the deceased was a communicant, in the presence of a vast concourse of the friends of the deceased, which included Judge Hanckel, Commonwealth's Attorney Tilton, City Sergeant Fowler, Clerk of the Court Jas. V. Trehy, Deputy Clerk J. Doran and other court officials, Judge Hanckel having adjourned his court as a mark of esteem for the deceased, who at one time was the valued deputy clerk of Mr. Trehy. Requiem mass for the repose of the soul of the deceased was celebrated by Rev. Father John Doherty, pastor of the church. Father Edward J. Walsh occupied a seat in the sanctuary. During the service, which was a most impressive one, Mrs. James Hughes rendered very touchingly the solo - “Face to Face.” There was a profusion of lovely floral tributes. The remains were laid to rest in St. Mary’s cemetery and the pallbearers were as follows: Citizens - James V. Trehy, W. E. Parch, James Hughes, Thomas Hogan, W. M. Hannan, Jr., and W. Campe Shelly. From the Knights of Columbus - L. V. Carey. From the Hibernians - William Donovan.
