Reginald Buchanan Henry, 88, of 616 Redgate Ave., a retired Navy Medical Corps physician and well-known genealogist, died Tuesday afternoon in a hospital. A native of Garden City, Long Island, N.Y., he was a son of James Buchanan and Mrs. Louisa Anderson Henry and the husband of Mrs. Jane Byrd Ruffin Henry. He received his early education at Georgetown College in Washington and St. Stephen's College at Annandale, N.Y. He received his medical degree in 1907 at the University of Virginia. After serving his internship at the University of Virginia Hospital in 1907-08, he became an assistant surgeon in the Navy in 1908. He graduated from the United States Medical School in 1909. He became a lieutenant commander in 1917, a commander in 1926 and a captain in 1943. Capt. Henry served on various ships of the Atlantic, Pacific and Asiatic fleets and at shore stations in this country, the West Indies, China and the Philippines. He retired from active duty in 1936 but was recalled in 1939 and served on the staff of the 5th Naval District medical officer from 1942 to 1945. Capt. Henry, who became interested in genealogy while in his teens, published the book "Genealogies of the Families of the Presidents." In it the descendants of each president from George Washington to Franklin D. Roosevelt are listed. Among his more recent accomplishments were two books called "Pedigree Charts," which contain all the names and order of descendants of prominent Virginia families. He was a member and former senior warden of Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church. He belonged to Delta Psi fraternity. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. George H. Sargeant Jr. of Newport News, a son, Dr. Reginald B. Henry Jr. of Norfolk and five grandchildren. The body will be taken from H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments to Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church for a funeral service to be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. A. Heath Light. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
