He was a native of Southampton County and had been a residence of Norfolk for 45 years. He was a son of the late Maxmillian and Eugenia Briggs Herbert. He reside at 6300 Richmond Crescent, Larchmont. He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and Owen Lodge No. 164, A.F.&A.M. Mr. Herbert was secretary and treasurer of the Southern Distributing Company for 29 years. In 1934 he organized the H and D Distributing Company, which he owned and operated until the time of his death. Surviving him is his wife, Mrs. Mary Styron Herbert; two brothers, C.E. and B.B. Herbert, of Norfolk; four sisters, Miss Louise Herbert, Mrs. W.N. Diehl and Mrs. James R. Peake, of Norfolk, and Mrs. Harry S. Davis, of Asheville, N.C.; a half-brother, W.T. Pace, of Franklin, and a number of nieces and nephews. The body will be taken from the Cox Funeral Home, 631 Westover Avenue, to the residence tomorrow morning, where funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock. The Rev. John F. Ward, rector of the Church of Ascension, will officiate. Interment will be in the family plot in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
