She was the widow of the late Johnnie Herbert Sr. Cleopatra, better known as ``Cleo,'' was born in Norfolk Aug. 22, 1911 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Whalon Bolden. Cleo received her early education in Norfolk public schools and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, Norfolk. She completed her higher education at Saint Augustine College in Raleigh, N.C., where she received her bachelor of science degree in elementary education. She was employed in the Norfolk public school system as a primary school teacher for more than 18 years, from which she retired. She was a loyal and faithful member of Grace Episcopal Church for many years until she became incapacitated. She actively participated in the church's programs and worship services with unyielding faith. She was a member of the Altar Guild and the Saint Cecilia Guild. Cleo leaves to cherish her memory two loving and devoted sons, Johnnie Herbert Jr. and Whalon B. Herbert Sr.; one daughter-in-law, Melvina Scott Herbert, all of Virginia Beach; two granddaughters, Dominique Herbert and Lindsay Herbert; one grandson, Whalon B. Herbert Jr.; two close cousins, Mildred Jordan and Constance Coppage, both of Norfolk; Ethel House, a loving friend and caregiver; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by two close cousins, Rebecca King and Lois Diggs. Her love for her family and children illuminated her life with a glow that touched the hearts of each person she met. She was truly one to be admired for her gentleness, wisdom, courage and above all, her strength. A funeral will be held Monday at noon in Grace Episcopal Church, 1400 E. Brambleton Ave., with the Rev. Father Harold J. Cobb D.D. officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Viewing will be Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Riddick Funeral Service. The body will be placed in church at 10:30 a.m. Monday.
