Mrs. Herbert, who was 83 years of age, was born on this same street 11 years before the sons of the South took up their arms in the War Between the States. She was a daughter of the late George H. and Mrs. Eliza Hope Kirby and was one of the few remaining links with the past that has been broken. She had long been a consistent member of Armstrong Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Herbert is survived by two daughters, Mrs. R.E. Davie and Mrs. J.T. Scarborough and one son, Bernard M. Herbert, of Suffolk; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The body was removed to the funeral home of J.R. Williams, 1027 Chesapeake Avenue, South Norfolk, where funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
