B.M. Herbert, 68, Dies in Suffolk

Suffolk, May 30--(AP)-- Bernard Meredith Herbert, 68, died today at 9 a.m. at 
his home on Cedar Street, after a long illness.  He was the son of the late 
Melnotte and Virginia Kirby Herbert of Berkley.
Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Ida Herbert; five daughters, Mrs. Virginia 
Macon Smith, Miss Nina Herbert, Mrs. Elizabeth Herbert Brothers, and Mrs. 
Lillian Bernard Claud, all of Suffolk; Mrs. Thelma L. Leidy, of Elsnore, 
Calif.; three grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. R.E. Davie, of Berkley, ad Mrs. 
J.T. Scarborough, of Norfolk.
He was a member of the Baptist Church and was manager of Planters Box 
Manufacturing Company until that plant closed.  He was employed by the Burgess 
Lumber Company until his health failed.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at Magnolia Cemetery 
with the Rev. Beecher L. Rhodes officiating.
