Prior to that time, Mrs. Hewitt had been hale and hearty and was unusually active, despite her great age. Many people throughout Tidewater have called on her from time to time to ask for her secret of longevity, and she was well known and highly esteemed. However, she never allowed a picture to be taken of herself. Mrs. Hewitt was a native of Pasquotank County, N.C., and had made her home in this section for 53 years. She was a daughter of John and Nancy Pelph Richardson and was the widow of Silas Hewitt. Surviving her are two daughters, Mrs. Thomas Humphries, of South Norfolk and Mrs. Mary Sawyer, of South Mills, N.C.; two brothers, William Richardson of South Mills, N.C. and John Richardson of New Bern, N.C.; 22 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. The body was removed to the Graham Funeral Home, Jackson and Jefferson Streets, South Norfolk, where funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. ************************************************************** Mrs. Mary Hewitt - Funeral services for Mrs. Hewitt, who died at her residence in Indian River Park, Norfolk County, Sunday, were conducted yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock in the Graham Funeral Home, in South Norfolk.
