Born in Kansas City, Missouri, he was the son of the late John C. and Lucille Lynch Hickerson. John attended St. Peters Southwest High and Missouri University in Moberly, Missouri. He was a Lieutenant Junior Grade Naval Aviator from 1943 to 1946. He retired from Continental Grain Company after 41 years. During those years, he was a past President and board member of the Carolina Virginia Grain Association, Board member of Virginia Soybean Association, Virginia Corn Growers Association, and the Virginia Small Grain Association. He also served on the Virginia State Corn and Soybean Boards. His interest included fishing, hunting, and tennis, which kept him active for many years. He spent over 38 years attending the Camp Greenbrier House party held every summer along with many friends and family. John held memberships at The Norfolk Yacht and Country Club, Norfolk German Club, and former member of the Virginia Club, Harbor Club, and member of Blessed Sacrament Church. He was a long-time member of Ducks Unlimited. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Cecilia Ashton Taylor Hickerson, daughter, Mary Hume Gouch and husband, Chuck, daughter, Ann Taylor Carney and husband, Eric, and son, John Cook Hickerson III and two grandsons, Brian Mullis and Wesley Orman. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. this Saturday, March 7 at the Norfolk Chapel of H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts. with Rev. Keith Martin officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Camp Greenbrier, 100 Camp Greenbrier Dr., Alderson, WV 24910 or to St. Mary's Home, 6171 Kempsville Circle, Norfolk, VA 23502.
