She was born to the late Floyd Lightfoot and Juanita Holloway Lightfoot in Richmond. Alyce was a faithful member of First Church of Christ Holiness, Norfolk where she served as a member of the Sanctuary Choir, the Women's Auxiliary of the Church of Christ (Hol), Eastern Diocese Secretary, and member of the United Christian Women's Ministry. She received her B.A. in English from Virginia Union University and her M.A. in education from Columbia University. After graduation, she began her 37- year teaching career in the public schools of New Kent County, the City of Richmond and finally, for the city of Norfolk until she retired in 1993. She received numerous honors including Teacher of the Year (83-84), All City Teaching Team (83) and the Eastern Diocese Woman of the Year (99). She was predeceased by five brothers, Floyd, Herman, James Henry, Harold and Daniel Lightfoot. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Edward R. Hicks ; a daughter, Lisa Hicks -Thomas (Samuel); a son, Quentin E. Hicks (Patrece); two grandchildren, Carson and Casey Thomas; two sisters, Evelyn Richardson and Shirley Thomas; one brother, Cyrus Lightfoot (Martha); a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held at noon Saturday at First Church of Christ Holiness, 862 E. Princess Anne Road, Norfolk. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday in Metropolitan Funeral Service, Berkley Chapel. Condolences may be offered at www.metropolitanfuneralservice.com.
