He was retired from Bress Brothers Theaters and had been a self-employed vegetable vendor for 10 years. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Mary Louise Hall of Norfolk; two sons, Sterling Hicks Jr. of the home and Marine Sgt. Harry L. Spencer; a sister, Mrs. Mamie Holmes; and a brother, Emmitt Hicks, both of Long Island, N.Y.; and five grandchildren.
