Higgins, at His Home on Cumberland Street Another sudden death occurred in the early hours of yesterday morning, the deceased being Mr. J.H. Higgins of No. 32 Cumberland street. He was about 75 years of age, and for nearly a quarter of a century had lived at the corner upon which his house is located, plying his trade, that of shoemaker. About two months ago his wife was sent to St. Vincent's hospital for treatment, her mind being clouded. Since that time, Mr. Higgins had lived alone and with the exception of the kindly attentions received from his next door neighbor, Mrs. Claudia Patrick, waited upon himself. It was his custom every morning to lend Mrs. Patrick his Virginian, to which he had been a subscriber for many years. When that lady called him for the paper yesterday morning a little after 6 o'clock she received no answer. She also perceived that the window blinds were all open and suspected at once that something was wrong. About 7 o'clock she called Mr. Higgins again and receiving no reply, got upon a chair and looked into his window. The old shoemaker was lying across the bed quite lifeless. One boot had been removed, otherwise he was completely clothed and it seemed that he must have expired while in the act of disrobing himself. Coroner Newton was sent for and upon his arrival decided that an inquest was unnecessary, declaring that death was due to alcoholism, old age and general exhaustion. The remains were removed to an undertaking establishment and prepared for burial. ******************************************************* The funeral of Mr. J.H.
