Virginian Pilot and The Norfolk Landmark February 27, 1915

John Hill, 71 years old, died last night at 7:20 at the residence, 1019 Church 
Street The funeral will take place from the residence Sunday at 3 p.m. and 
friends are invited to attend. He is survived by his widow, one sister, Mrs. 
James Robinson. He was a member of the Elks and Owls and formerly a member of 
the Hope Volunteer fire department. He was also formerly paymaster's yeoman, 
U.S.N. and foreman of the Norfolk street cleaning department. He was a native of 
Norfolk, well known and highly regarded. He was sick about a month. The funeral 
will be conducted by Rev. Vernon I'Anson, pastor of the Grace Baptist church and 
interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
