A native of Halifax County, N.C., she was a daughter of J.W. and Mrs. Emma Jones Whitehead. She lived in Norfolk 41 years and was employed as a private nurse 15 years. She was a member of Dorcas Chapter 50, Order of Eastern Star, and Bethel Seventh Day Adventist Church on Corprew Avenue, where she was a deaconess. Surviving are one son, Archie Hill Jr. of New York City; six daughters, Mrs. Ophelia Watson, Mrs. Edith P. Clark, Miss Ethel C. Hill, Mrs. Virginia Benns, Mrs. Julia Petaway and Mrs. Lethia Godsey of Norfolk; four sisters, Mrs. Leora Haley of Weldon, N.C., Mrs. Ethel Porter of Hopewell, Miss Pearl Whitehead of Boston and Miss Emma Smith of Norfolk; and one brother, Talmadge Whitehead of Norfolk. The body was taken to Chatman funeral Home. A funeral service will be held in Bethel Seventh day Adventist Church Friday at 1 p.m. by Elder James Thomas, pastor. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
