A native of Norfolk, she was a daughter of Mrs. Lollie Claggion and the late Edgar D. Claggion. She was a seamstress at Shulman’s two years. She was a member of the Gospel Choir and secretary of the Senior Stewardess Broad of St. James AME Church. Besides her husband and mother, surviving are two sons, Vincent. B. Merritt of Raynham,MA and Celvia O. Merritt of Derby, CT; four sisters, Mrs. Catherine C. Sparrow and Mrs. Wilma C. Eley of Norfolk, Mrs. Arthalia C. Brown of Portsmouth, and Mrs. Rena C. Monk of New York; and four brothers, James Claggion of Norfolk, Charles Claggion of Atlanta, and William Claggion of Burlington, NJ; and four grandchildren. The body was taken to Pretlow’s Funeral Home. A funeral service was held in St. James AME Church by the Rev. F. J. West. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
