Fletcher Hill, one of Norfolk’s oldest barbers died suddenly at his home, 861 Washington avenue, Saturday night, October 20. Although Mr. Hill had been in failing health for some time his death came as a sh0ck to his family and friends. He was in his shop on Main street, up to midnight and returned home. Upon getting ready to retire, complained of feeling badly and medical aid was summoned but he expired shortly afterwards. His funeral was held from Grace P. E. Church, Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock. Rev. B. W. Harris assisted by Rev. M. B. Birchette of Portsmouth conducted the services. Interment took place in West Point Cemetery. There was a profusion of floral designs. The following gentlemen acted as pallbearers: Messrs J. S. Hall, F. S. Tucker, Abner E. Lee, Junious (smudged), Chas. Ferebee, Edw. Crocker, James Morris and Dr. W. T. Lovette. Mr. Hill was a native of Enfield, NC, but had spent the larger part of his life in Norfolk where he was engaged in the barber’s business. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ella Burnham Hill.
