She was a resident of Virginia Beach. Catherine was born in Elizabeth City, N.C., was the daughter of the late James Munden and Nora Evelyn Crocker. She adored her family and friends and she loved being with them. Catherine was an active member of St. Gregory's the Great Catholic Church. Throughout the years, she volunteered her time to so many organizations and charities. Catherine loved traveling to other countries, visiting people, and learning about their cultures. She enjoyed attending operas and plays. Catherine will be remembered most for her smiles, hugs, generosity, and kind words. She was preceded in death by her husband Michael Hillegass, Sr. and son Patrick Hillegass; survived by two daughters, Catherine Hartman and Frances DeBaun of Va. Beach; three sons, Michael Hillegass, Jr. of Va. Beach, Edward Hillegass and wife, Carol, of Falls Church, Va., and James Hillegass and wife, Becky, of Va. Beach; her 18 grandchildren, and 6 great grand-children. The family would like to thank Virginia Oncology and the loving and caring staff at the First Colonial Inn, where she resided for the past year. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. The family will receive friends in the Norfolk Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Thursday from 6:30 to 8 P.M. Online condolences may be offered to the family at hdoliver.com. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
