A6, the husband of Mrs. Millie Hines an a native of Norfolk, died Tuesday in a hospital. He was a brakeman with 28 years of service with Norfolk & Western Railway's Lamberts Point Coal Piers. He was a Navy chief petty officer during World War II. Other survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Michelle Boyd of New York, and Ms. Gay Hines, Mrs. Jessie Spruill, Mrs. Ella Mae Mercer, and Mrs. Joann Brooks of Norfolk; two stepsons, Arthur Phillips Jr. and Joseph Phillips of Jersey City, N.C.; 20 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; and a niece. The funeral will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in Hale Funeral Home Chapel by Luther Lewin. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Spruill of 2815 Villa Circle.
