Mr. Hinton, a native of St. Brides, Va., had retired from the Army Corps of Engineers after 35 years. He was a Baptist. Survivors include his wife, Martha Mae Hinton; five daughters, LaVerne Robinson, Charlene D. Hinton and Dorothy Mae Hinton, all of Norfolk, Patricia Ann Hunt of Hampton and Bernice Elizabeth Hill of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sons, Bernard D. Hinton of Fairfax and Charlie D. Hinton of Norfolk; a sister, Addie Johnson of Chesapeake; two brothers, Columbus Jacob Hinton and Lee Hinton, both of Portsmouth; and eight grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Hale Funeral Chapel by the Rev. J.L. Kearney Sr. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Friends may join the family at the residence.
